Messy Play, Meaningful Learning

"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world."

~Nelson Mandela

Let's be real - some days it's finger paints and science experiments.  Other days, it's cereal for dinner and "educational" cartoons.  This space is for all of it. It's a space where learning feels like play and curiosity leads the way.

I made the decision over 10 years ago to Homeschool my children and it has been one of the most rewarding experiences within my parenting journey.

Think BIG Academy is our heart-centered homeschool built on creativity, curiosity, and the belief that children learn best when they are free to explore big ideas in small, meaningful ways. It isn't just an educational choice - it's a lifestyle rooted in connection, flexibility, and purpose. For our family, it's about cultivating space for values to shape learning and for everyday moments to become powerful lessons.

We homeschool because I believe children deserve to grow at their own pace, ask endless questions, and learn in ways that spark joy - not just meet standards. From backyard science to story-driven math, from messy art to deep questions like "How old is the Muffin Man?" I believe in nurturing thinkers, makers, and doers.  It's not always easy, and it's definitely not always Pintrest-perfect, but it's real, rich and deeply rewarding.

Whether you are a fellow homeschooler, a parent looking to enrich your child's day, or just exploring more intentional ways to teach and connect, this space is for you. I'll be sharing the lessons, wins, flops, and sparks of joy that make up our journey at Think BIG Academy - where learning is messy, intentional and made to fit real life.  For a more intimate look at our homeschooling journey be sure to follow us on Facebook and Instagram @ThinkBIGAcademyHomeschool.

Class is in Session:
Creative Play 101

Spoiler Alert: You don't need a Pinterest-Perfect playroom for your child to thrive.  Creative Play is about using what you've got - cardboard, couch cushions, leftover spaghetti - to spark curiosity and keep those little minds (and hands) busy.  This is where we talk messy fun, brain-boosting activities, and the power of saying "yes" to play, even when you are just trying to drink your tea while it's still warm.

Easy Open Ended Activities

~Cardboard Construction - Give your child an empty box and see what happens.  Depending on their age it could be everything from a fort, a spaceship, a Pet Hotel or if they are like my daughter an apartment with a TV (her iPad), furniture (a pillow) and a pantry (a basket of snacks) the possibilities are endless!

~Story Stones - Draw or paint simple pictures on small rocks (sun, tree, flower, heart, etc).  Children can use them to make up a story in any order - this activity is great for language development.
